Water agar is ideal when concerned about contamination, it has no nutrients so pesky bacteria has nothing to feed on. This does also mean that your spores/mycelium has no food either but a sterile moisture base to grow at its leisure. This means growth will be much slower than nutrient rich agar plates.
We recommend transferring to a nutrient rich agar plate once you get decent, bacteria free growth.
We colour our water agar blue to make each of our recipes easy to identify.
Pre-poured in 90mm triple vented Petri dishes.
We recommend using your plates straight away to avoid contamination.
If you need to store them, package them upside-down in an air-tight container in the fridge and aim to use them as soon as possible.
All plates will come wrapped in Parafilm with an extra strip of Parafilm per plate for you to wrap again once used.
Always perform lab work in front of a laminar flow hood, or at least in a still air box, contamination is everywhere and waiting for food like nutrient rich agar.
We pour our agar plates one per week so please allow 7-10 days for delivery.
