Crispy Lion’s Mane Mushroom Steak Recipe

A simple and satisfying way to cook Lion’s Mane. Thick, meaty slices with a golden, crispy edge and tender, juicy centre — perfect as a plant-based steak alternative.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 large Lion’s Mane mushroom
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt & pepper
  • Optional: chopped parsley

 

METHOD:

  1. Slice the Lion’s Mane into thick “steaks” (about 1.5–2cm thick).
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Add mushroom slices and gently press down with a spatula.
  4. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  5. Add garlic and sauté briefly.
  6. Add soy sauce, lemon juice, paprika, salt and pepper.
  7. Spoon the sauce over the mushrooms and cook for a further 1–2 minutes.
  8. Serve with chopped parsley.

 

CHEF TIP: Don’t wash mushrooms — brush clean or wipe gently with a damp cloth.
